As a Social Worker, you will provide direct interventions and feedback to inmates in regular and on-going counseling sessions to assist in identifying and resolving individual, interpersonal, and environmental problems which interfere with their ability to function appropriately. Conduct comprehensive interviews with newly arrived inmates and completes archival research to formulate risk assessments and for treatment planning. Conduct formal, structured clinical assessments, which will have direct impact on the classification of inmates. Directly assessing internal and external risks posed by an inmate is a core function of the Correctional Social Worker. Develop inmate management plans, case counseling and individual, group and family intervention services. Serve as an inmate treatment group facilitator providing interventions to assist inmates in changing their behaviors, and values that contributed to the commission of their criminal acts. Provide direct feedback to inmates on their treatment, their strengths and witness, as well as recommendations and reports to Parole and Clemency Boards. Serve as a treatment group coordinator and remains current with research on effective interventions. Provide crisis intervention with inmates to address immediate high-risk situations. Maintain extensive documentation of the progress of individual inmates and participates in ensuring decision makers have knowledge of clinical assessments. The role of the correctional social worker includes testifying at administrative and legal procedures as a mental health expert.

Conditions of employment:
1. Licensure/Certification: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license as a Social Worker at the Masters level, or higher, from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
2. This position requires that employee shall have no civilian felony convictions or court-martial convictions for any offense with a maximum authorized sentence to confinement of over one-year, per Department of Defense Instruction, Number 1325.7.
2. This work requires frequent, direct contact in the detention of inmates convicted of offenses against the punitive articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
3. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check In Accordance With (IAW) Public Law 101-647, Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094.
4. This position requires pre-employment medical screening and annual re-evaluation. · This position requires skin test screening for Tuberculosis (TB). Employee must undergo screening for TB annually in conjunction with medical evaluation.
5. This position requires the employee to be on-call after duty hours and on weekends.
6. This position requires employee to complete a 40 hour pre-service training program and 40 hours of annual training.
7. This position has been designated a Testing Designated Position and is therefore covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program which requires random drug urinalysis testing. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.

Basic Education Requirement of this position: This position has a minimum education requirement in addition to meeting the specialized experience and/or substitution for specialized experience as follows: This position requires a master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition meeting the Basic Education requirement, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level and meet the following qualification experience: working with patients in a corrections environment or hospital performing psychological evaluations, providing crisis intervention, and maintaining clinical documentation.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
