The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) consists of one VHA tertiary care facility and three (3) community based outpatient clinics serving Veterans in twelve (12) Louisiana parishes, eleven (11) counties in Southern Arkansas and nine (9) counties in East Texas. The medical center is classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1C Facility which accepts referrals from the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System located in New Orleans, LA and the Alexandria VA Health Care System located in Pineville, LA. OBVAMC is a teaching hospital providing a complete range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary and specialty care in the areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Selectee's duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Managing the Community Care Fee Services program to include establishing administrative policies and procedures that are in compliance with regulatory guidance.
·Determining budget, staff, space and other resource needs.
·Communicates with external providers in the community in the coordination of care for Veterans.
·Monitoring costs and making appropriate procedures or process changes.
·Analyzing, evaluating and developing recommendations on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the procedures, organization, work force utilization, etc.
·Conducting management studies and research projects for the Hospital Director and Executive Staff and make appropriate recommendations regarding organizational processes and policies.
·Assigning work, developing performance standards, and program direction of the subordinate staff of the Community Care Services.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm
Position Description Title/PD#: Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist/7283-0
Preferred Experience: A minimum of six months or more of supervisory experience in addition to meeting the specialized experience required for the position.
Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary; however, there will be some periods of walking, bending, lifting, reaching, pulling, and carrying of boxes of records required. Occasionally, veterans may become angry and potentially violent. The position requires long periods of working on a computer. Extensive use of the telephone may be required.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 level.

Specialized Experience:
"Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

· Determining policy, and assuring patients receive timely and quality clinical services; Providing oversight and implementing design, development, modification and maintenance of health care business solutions to improve fee basis care (external medical care) programs;
