Functional Statement Title/#: Ophthalmologist (000000)
Position will provide direct ophthalmology resident supervision and oversight of both the clinic and operative setting. The ideal candidate must be competent and proficient in general ophthalmologic surgeries, with a high concentration of cataract and laser procedures. Additional surgical expertise may be valuable and able to be supported. Prior experience in training ophthalmic surgeons is ideal, but not mandatory. Board certification/board eligibility is desired. In addition to providing comprehensive ophthalmological services and ophthalmology resident education, the incoming Ophthalmology candidate would also be expected to perform Compensation and Pension (C&P) exams when needed, occasional administrative duties as required, as well as to ensure compliance with all local and national VA and Joint Commission policies. Our Ophthalmology service also works closely with optometrists locally and at our clinically Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's). The incoming Ophthalmologist would also be responsible for providing guidance and support to our Optometrists and overseeing consults to non-VA ophthalmology subspecialist when indicated and warranted.
This position requires light to moderate lifting (15-45 lbs); light carrying (15 lbs and under); reaching above shoulder; walking; bending; stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; mental stability; working closely with others and working alone.
Basic Requirements:
Preferred Experience: Prior experience in training ophthalmic surgeons would be ideal but not mandatory. Board certification/board eligibility is desired.
