Duties of this position include the following, but are not limited to the listing below:
As a Health Technician, you will be responsible for serving as a member of interdisciplinary team with primary responsibility of screening patients for urgent and emergent needs in order to provide optimum and timely care and appropriate process flow. You will assist in the provision of care to acutely ill patients with complex medical needs requiring monitoring and constant observations as needed pre-procedure and/or post diagnostic tests under the supervision of a professional nurse.
· Provides continuous monitoring, vital sign collection including height and weight.
· Assists with admissions, discharges, post mortem care, and nursing care procedures specific to the unit.
· Demonstrates use of equipment to safely transfer, ambulate and position patients with a wide variety of health problems/medical conditions.
· Performs EKGs as needed.
· Collects and delivers specimens according to instructions which may include, but are not limited to: urine, sputum, stool, blood, and specimens for the blood bank.
· Administers treatment such as application of condom catheter, removes indwelling Foley catheters, ostomy care, enemas, decubitus care, simple dressing changes, wound irrigations, oral suctioning, tracheostomy care, PEG site care, Suprapubic catheter care, bladder scans and phlebotomy after training.
· Performs or assists patients with ADLs (activities of daily living) i.e. oral care, baths, toileting.
· Administers CPR.
· Documents all nursing interventions appropriately in CPRS.
· Anticipates supplies and equipment needed in emergency situations, ensures all patients rooms are well stocked, clean and safe.
· Demonstrates, administers and assists nursing staff in concordance with nursing role differentiation grid and position description.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties require extensive period of standing and walking. Workload requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, repositioning patients, and similar activities. The work requires moving and transporting of heavy items such as patients with limited mobility gurneys, and other equipment on regular and recurring basis.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an environment involving regular and recurring exposure to infection and contagious diseases. Special gloves, gowns, and/or mask may be requires as safety precautions.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Working as member of a clinical team to provide health care, working as paramedic, assisting RNs with specialized procedures for patients, including performing CPR or basic lifesaving interventions, etc.
Competency 1. Knowledge of and skill sufficient to understand nursing principles, practices and procedures; knowledge to observe and identify the patient's physical and emotional reactions to the care being provide; to meet the patient's individual needs and consider the interrelationship of physical, emotional and social factors.
Competency 2. Knowledge of and skill sufficient to provide and gather information on the human body structure, functions, illness and diseases necessary to provide appropriate patient care; ability to recognize deviation from normal, sufficient to warrant immediate modification of the patient care plans with delayed notification of the nurse for concurrence in the modification of the plan.
Competency 3. Ability to understand, motivation and reactions to stress for the purpose of promoting interpersonal relation with patients and family members. Demonstrates caring behavior and use of positive interpersonal skills in working with patient, families and members of the health care team.
