As a Mission Support Specialist, you will perform a variety of duties such as:

Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
GS-09: You must meet one of the following to qualify at the GS-09 grade level:
Experience: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service) providing assistance to senior specialists in the evaluation and analysis of operational and administrative programs to identify quantitative and qualitative productivity standards, measures of performance and reporting procedures, and resource utilization effectiveness and efficiency; assisting in the execution of administrative programs by carrying out specified portions or segments of specific projects such as updating budget data on spreadsheets, preparing routine budget requests, preparing requests for personnel action, providing orientation to new employees, coordinating office moves and telephone service requirements, monitoring usage of government motor vehicles, and collecting and analyzing information related to workflow, office procedures and control systems in support of program evaluations; and identifying and recommending solutions to administrative problems and providing advice to staff on established methods and procedures.
Substitution of Education for Experience: You may substitute successful completion of a Master's degree or two (2) full years of graduate education in a qualifying field or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-09 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position. (A course of study in business administration, public administration, and related fields is qualifying.) Check with your school or university to determine how many credit hours comprise two (2) years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester and 54 quarter hours.
Combining Education and Experience: Appropriate combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience also may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-09 grade level.
GS-11: You must meet the following to qualify at the GS-11 grade level:
Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service), performing duties such as: coordinating and monitoring a variety of administrative projects (e.g., budget, personnel, space, logistics); identifying and recommending solutions to a wide range of administrative problems; analyzing administrative data from a variety of sources to develop trends, patterns, profiles, estimates, and studies; preparing preliminary and finished reports and documents; and representing the office in dealings with vendors and personnel from administrative support organizations.
Substitution of Education for Experience: You may substitute a doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, such as L.L.M/PhD. in a qualifying field for experience at the GS-11 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position. (A course of study in business administration, public administration, and related fields is qualifying.) Check with your school or university to determine how many credit hours comprise three (3) years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 54 semester and 81 quarter hours.
Combining Education and Experience: Appropriate combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience also may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-11 grade level.
GS-12: You must meet the following to qualify at the GS-12 grade level:
Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service), applying (and modifying, if necessary) established practices to specific administrative problems which involve many variables; conducting independent evaluations on administrative functions and preparing study findings, recommendations, and reports; providing advice on a variety of administrative and management programs and procedures; making agreements and commitments at meetings and during telephone discussions in accordance with previously received functions; and performing liaison functions with other organizations, including effectively presenting the organization's needs and establishing harmonious working relations with counterparts.
National Service Experience (i.e. volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
