VA Primary Care Providers (PCPs) manage a complex panel of patients, providing comprehensive medical care, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention and chronic disease management. Primary care clinics use a medical home model called Patient Aligned Care Teams. The team includes a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse or health technician, and administrative assistant. Most practices have registered dieticians, clinical pharmacists, social workers, and mental health providers within the practice. PCPs provide general and gender-specific care to both men and women Veterans that range in age from 18 through the geriatric years. The physician serves as collaborating physician for nurse practitioner/physician assistants. Panel sizes for full-time physicians are approximately 1300 patients, and appointment times are typically 30 minutes for established patients and 60 minutes for new patients. There is no evening or weekend call. Some clinics have Saturday morning/early afternoon hours which are staffed by a rotation.
Manchester VAMC offers teaching opportunities for both medical students and PA students in the outpatient areas. Manchester VAMC has medical students/PA/NP student teaching opportunities. As a member of the VA Manchester Healthcare System and Department of Medicine, a faculty appointment at an appropriate rank is expected
If selected as a float physician the physician (will travel to any VA NH Primary Care location a /or in Manchester based upon coverage) to cover other provider's panels, see new patients, and see same-day sick visits. This may occur at any of the main campuses or at one of the 4 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) are part of the Manchester VAMC system which are located in Conway, Portsmouth, Somersworth, and Tilton, NH.
The float physician would provide care for both male and female patients, and would be required to be proficient in gender-specific care such as pelvic exams, pap smears, and contraception counseling and prescribing.
The VA utilizes a national electronic medical record and is known for delivering high quality, evidence based care within a culture of continuous improvement. The VA is in the midst of redesigning primary care towards a more patient centered, healthcare team approach with emphasis on improving health care outcomes through developing better systems for care management and coordination.
NOTE: Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
Position Requirement: Preferred Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Manchester VAMC is seeking board certified/eligible physicians in order to meet ACGME requirements that trainees be supervised by board based physicians.
Preferred Experience: Three years of experience providing Primary/Ambulatory Care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Primary Care Physician Service Line Manager should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position including examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan and educate residents. Physical activities include sitting, standing (up to 4 hours) walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. The incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable; and capable to perform the duties of the position.
DRUG TESTING: This is a testing designated position for drug testing purposes. The incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
Basic Requirements:

Qualification: U.S. Board Certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine Preferred.
