Coordinates the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services provided by the Central Iowa Healthcare System, including the development of policies and processes.
Provides technical and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing of the work of the SUD program, including the program's adherence to Joint Commission and CARF standards of evaluation, as well as the VA's Mental Health Uniform Services Handbook.
Works with VISN 23 leadership on the coordination of substance use care at the VISN level.
Provides training to staff and caregivers on the nature of Substance Use Disorders and their treatment.
Serves as the facility's point of contact on SUD issues with the community.
Oversees the management of SUD consults.
Provides direct care to Veterans with SUD issues, including assessment and treatment.
Participates in the Social Work on call rotation within the medical center.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Education: Must have a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status does not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
Licensure: A Social Work Coordinator must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an ASWB advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice).Social Work Coordinators may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty.
Experience. Individual's experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) below:
1. Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services and ability to provide intensive case management services.
2. Knowledge of psychosocial treatment and ability to independently implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
3. Ability to conduct and participate in outreach and consultation activities and presentations, including field interviews, assessments, and referrals and coaching of professional and para professional staff of other agencies in the appropriate care of veterans with chronic mental health and physical illnesses to ameliorate challenging behaviors of aggression, self-harm or intrusive behaviors which may prevent them from remaining in a less restrictive environment.
4. Ability to be administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to patients in a major specialty area such as provision to the homeless population.
5. Ability to manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and may be responsible for portions of the program's budget.
6. In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
7. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
8. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
9. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s).
10. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.

NOTE: If social workers covered under the grandfathering provision of the 1991 Federal law regarding licensure or certification of VHA social workers leave the GS-185 social work series, they lose the grandfathering protection.
