PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Work assignments require light to moderate physical activity, and heavy work such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils, pushing/pulling loaded tray carts to and from ward areas. Occasional work on ladders and using powered cleaning equipment is required. Operating a large variety of food service equipment is required and filling in for employees while on leave. There is continuous standing and walking with frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling. There is frequent moving and/or lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Working areas (kitchen and dishroom) are often uncomfortably hot, humid, and noisy. The incumbent is regularly exposed to possibility of being electrically shocked, cut, bruised, burned, or scalded, and/or slipping on wet slippery floors. He/she is constantly exposed to extremes in temperature (cold from kitchen freezer/refrigerators, sometimes to -20 degrees; heat and steam from ovens, dish machines, etc. sometimes to temperatures in excess of 100 degrees). there is exposure to irritants present in detergents, cleansers, and sanitizing compounds.
Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of food service duties to include preparation, delivery, sanitation, etc.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ).

volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps,
AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic;
religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical
competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and
experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying
experience, including volunteer experience.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to supervise Food Service Workers by providing expert knowledge in performing all functions of food service work.
JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:
1. Skill in supervising work teams.
2. Ability to perform food service worker duties.
3. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc.
4. Knowledge of cleaning tools and equipment.
