WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: Pathways student internship eligible enrolled or accepted for enrollment AND veteran preference eligible with student status. The purpose of the Pathways Internship Program is to provide interns with exposure to public service, enhance educational experience, and support educational goals. The program is formally structured to give interns the opportunity to work in positions related to their academic or career goals.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program: You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the institution (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum); and enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved home school; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2 or 4 year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum; and Students must be in good academic standing according to their institution. You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program.
This is an Indefinite, Excepted Service appointment that will continue as long as the incumbent meets the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. This position may be converted to a permanent position, but is not guaranteed.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial is a 3.3 acre Outdoor Symbolic Memorial built to remember "those who were killed, those who survived, and those changed forever" by the April 9, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The Memorial and Museum are owned and administered by the private Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation. The National Park Service serves as partner to the Foundation, staffing the grounds of the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial. This consists primarily of roving interpretation and scheduled group talks. This site also serves as the Oklahoma State Coordinator's office for which interpreters may also work community outreach events. The major duties of the position: multiple times daily, year round roving the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial making informal interpretive contacts responding to visitor inquiries, needs, and complaints; providing information about the site and the surrounding areas; presenting multiple daily conducted programs/ formal interpretation such as talks and walks. Also collateral duties: replying to oral and written inquiries about park resources and programs, promoting NPS national programs such as Jr. Ranger, Find Your Park, Park RX, Every Kid in a Park, etc. to visitors who may not be familiar with them, and work with a state wide NPS social media presence, among other duties.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule can change from 16 to 40 hours per week based on school commitments and the needs of the park unit. Schedule changes are typically coordinated at least 6 weeks in advance to ensure preparedness, accurate pay, etc. You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime work.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Agreement which specifies the conditions of your employment as we've indicated in this job announcement. You must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of your appointment. To verify that you do, we will require proof of your continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout your internship. Failure to do so will result in termination of your internship and employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure ot a variety of weather conditions.
