Medicine Service is seeking a Physician Assistant (Sleep Medicine) to be part of our team.
Albuquerque is a major metropolitan area with a population exceeding 600,000 that is nestled between the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande. The climate is extraordinary, with very mild winters and dry warm summers with cool evenings. Outdoor activities are vast and include hiking, skiing, mountain climbing, fishing, hunting, biking, year-round golf and tennis.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Functions in a specialized area of Pulmonary Medicine in the role of practitioner, mentor, consultant, educator, and researcher. Establishes goals and priorities in accordance with patient and staff needs in addition to organization objectives. Ensures adherence to hospital, departmental policies and procedures. Patient care of patients form 17-99 years of age. It is preferred that candidates have three years of full-time sleep medicine practice.
1) Provides specialty sleep medicine health care in a collaborative practice with physicians and other allied health care providers.
2) Manages cases according to established protocols and applies the standard of practice level of care to patients with sleep disorders.
3) Maintains case histories, medical reports and other records as necessary.
4) Proficiency in, or willingness to learn the computerized medical record model used in the Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare system.
5) Prepares treatment plans and monitors adherence to, and effectiveness of such plans.
6) Prescribes according to standards and with scope of practice.
7) Patient education, counseling to include the ability to apply a moderate knowledge of the devices used to treat the patients with various sleep disorders.
8) Participates in a collaborative sleep medicine practice via Telemedicine capabilities of the Medical Center.
9) Updates knowledge on sleep disorders through continuing education opportunities.
10) Performs initial consultation and physical exam to evaluate for all types of sleep disorders.
11) Orders appropriate laboratory tests, polysomnogram and other appropriate testing.
12) Review polysomnogram test results and order appropriate therapy.
13) Has knowledge of PAP modalities as well as other treatment options.
14) Evaluate established patients and their clinical response to treatment.
15) Identify problems impacting therapy tolerance and make appropriate changes.
16) Order and evaluate overnight oximetry reports.

BASIC REQUIRMENTS
Preferred Qualifications: Three years of full-time sleep medicine practice.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
