This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to perform fabric and upholstery work in support of maintenance activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
(1) Fabricates canvas covers, tarpaulins, and other canvas and leather items that are difficult to plan, lay out, construct, and fit because of figure irregularities, uncommon shapes and sizes, unusual designs, or intricately constructed parts. Measures area, objects, or machinery that canvas is to be installed on. Sketches pattern of item to be fabricated on heavy paper or cloth, laying out work, as necessary, circles, angles, curves and irregular shapes. Cuts out patterns and all parts of the item determining thickness and gauge of material needed. Sews/bonds parts of canvas, leather, and synthetic materials together.
(2) Replaces hardware on canvas and webbing. Attaches tack buttons by clinching tack and buttons to material with hammer and wood block or by fastening with tack-button machine. Prepares and circular-stitches iron rings. Inserts brass grommets using die set, lead block, hollow steel cutter and punch, fastener anvil, riveting hammer, and wood mallet. Inserts eyelets, attaches tabular or belt rivets to canvas and webbing items, installs tent slips, and attaches other types of hardware to canvas equipage and tentage slips by clasps. Punches holes and inserts grommets into materials using a grommet machine. Cuts out and attaches various types of billets to canvas equipment. Affixes rolled end, angled short end, and wide webbing straps. Fabricates stitched grip and rope reinforced strap
handles. Replaces damaged parts on suspenders.
(3) Repairs worn or damaged leather equipment and attachments. Hand sews leatherusing saddler's stitch or running stitch; using tools such as stitch maker, awl, fid, and needles. Machine sews items made of soft leather. Fastens pieces of leather together and joins edges for desired appearance. Finishes edges and surface of leather to include replacing missing or damaged buckles.
(4) Repairs or replaces upholstery on tactical, commercial, and combat vehicles and equipment. Examines vehicle to determine extent of repair. Removes upholstery from seat assemblies. Repairs or replaces defective seat parts such as frames, springs, and padding. Measures, cuts, sews, and/or bonds new covering using tools of the trade. Installs and secures interior trim such as doors and cowl panels, armrests, metal trim, and door and window handles. Cuts out and installs new floor mats, carpeting, and weather stripping.
(5) Cleans, maintains, and makes necessary adjustments to tools and power sewing machines used.
(6) Performs other duties as assigned.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military grade prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee must also be in a compatible military assignment (MOS/AFSC) prior to or within one year of placement.
