The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is a level three complexity hospital serving 22 counties in southwest lower Michigan. In FY 13, the Medical Center and its four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Wyoming, Muskegon, Benton Harbor and Lansing, MI, serves over 41,000 Veterans. Battle Creek has 176 inpatient beds, which includes medicine, psychiatry and long-term care. In addition to primary care at all sites, the Medical Center offers a variety of specialty outpatient services at the main campus in Battle Creek and its largest CBOC in Wyoming, MI. Battle Creek is a progressive diverse small city with excellent schools located in proximity to several notable colleges and universities. This position is located within the Mental Health Section providing care to veterans on the Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Primary job functions include the provision of direct patient care and of consultation services of medical cases. The incumbent interacts and works with clinicians from other Services as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. The incumbent is skillful in interpersonal relationships including conflict resolution and the ability to work collaboratively with staff from other professions. The incumbent determines patients' needs for medical evaluation, specialized evaluation procedures, diagnostic procedures, and medication management. The incumbent provides a full range of comprehensive, efficacious and evidence-based interventions, as well as interview based assessments and medication management as approved and credentialed by the Professional Standards Board.The incumbent is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the VAMC for Veterans to whom the incumbent provides services. The incumbent provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours may be rotated or extended based upon the needs of the Medical Center or our Veterans.

Physical Requirements:
The work requires walking, standing, bending stooping, and reaching which performing physical examinations and providing treatment to patients. Prolonged periods of walking and standing are required as well as the ability to bend and stoop.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship - United States citizen.
English Language Proficiency - Proficient in spoken and written English.
Certification - Possess a current, full, active and unrestricted nursing license or certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. (This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a MSN degree from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on College Nursing Education (CCNE) or I hold a bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or graduated from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or graduated from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GRADE: To be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) commensurate with experience and education.
SALARY: Salary will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) and is based on experience and education.
