U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) is located near the Arizona-California-Mexico border, adjacent to the Colorado River, approximately 15 miles north of Yuma (pop 87,000), Arizona. Yuma is a 2.5 hour drive from San Diego, CA and Phoenix, AZ and a 5-6 hour drive from Las Vegas, NV. Situated in the far-southwest corner of the state, the proving ground is in the heart of the great Sonoran desert where the US Army tests artillery, aircraft target acquisition equipment and armament, armored and wheeled vehicles, a variety of munitions, and personnel and supply parachute systems to ensure that America's ground forces have the equipment necessary to win our nation's battles. With a land mass of approximately 1300 square miles, YPG proudly holds the distinction of being one of the largest military installations in the world.

ENTRY LEVEL. Serve as a Child and Youth Program Assistant (CYPA) in one or more Child and Youth Service (CYS) programs. Maintain control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Assist in providing and leading planned activities for program participants. Help establish a program environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth and adults. Help prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule. Supervise children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings and special events. Promote and model safety, fitness, health and nutrition practices. Notify supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Help arrange for/serve appropriate snacks/meals where applicable. Observe a program participant for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Note special instructions provided by parents. Ensure children and youth (as applicable) depart with authorized person according to written parental instruction. Assist in maintaining program participation data and completing required daily reports. Provide care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards. Complete designated training requirements and records and tracks completed training on own Individual Development Plan (IDP). Participate in program evaluation as required. Assist in achieving and maintaining DoD/Army certification and national accreditation or Army equivalent. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth. Help prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule. Assist children and youth with special projects, homework and life skills. Prepares and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements. Review, provide input to, and implement schedules and activity plans. Demonstrate, instruct, lead and facilitate planned and spontaneous program activities. Set up displays and bulletin boards. Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Interact professionally with staff members, parents, and local installation command personnel. Participates in conferences with parents and staff. Brief other employees and parents. Supervise children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings and special events. Promote and model safety, fitness, health and nutrition practices. Notify supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Help arrange for/serve appropriate snacks/meals where applicable. Conditions of Employment:

2. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis.
3. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-15m, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation is required.
4. Must be 18 years of age at time of employment.
5. Must complete a current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations IAW current Army and DOD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
6. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors. Scheduled may include irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends
7. Travel to on and off post locations may be required.
Successful completion of Annual training requirements within the prescribed time frame and demonstrated on the job competence is required.
