The Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking full-time or part-time staff physicians to develop an Academic Hospitalist on the Medical Service. The Oklahoma City VAMC is a tertiary health care facility serving Oklahoma and part of northern Texas and is an integral part of the educational and research mission of Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center.
Physician will be the primary attending for a general medicine inpatient team, provide direct care, and supervise an outpatient diagnostic center and follow-up clinic. In addition, training and experience with quality management in the health care setting is preferred. Call, weekend, holiday, and vacation coverage will be coordinated with Medical Service Staff physicians. He/she will apply national and VA guidelines to patient screening, surveillance and management of patients with a variety of general internal medicine conditions. He/she will participate in the education and supervision of trainees. Research experience is preferred. Successful candidates would qualify for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center.
Work Schedule: Variable
Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods, use of fingers and both hands, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4; ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional and mental stability. Hearing aid is permitted. Incumbents may experience exposure to blood and body fluids.
Basic Requirements:
1. Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. OR
2. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. OR
3. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant
Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
