This position is necessary to provide clinical services for Otolaryngology service. The incumbent will perform as a staff attending in the Otolaryngology service with specific duties to provide care to that patient population. Duties include clinical, operative, outpatient and inpatient otolaryngology care to veteran patients that are from acute and chronic conditions or from service-related injuries. The Otolaryngologist will also provide supervision of surgical residents at the Medical Center that are from the academic affiliate. The applicant will be required to have or be hired as a faculty member at the academic affiliate. He/she must meet otolaryngology documentation requirements set forth by Joint Commission and participate in development and implementation of program planning, objectives, and standards essential to delivery of quality otolaryngology care in the areas noted above. Assignment will include on-call coverage of the operating rooms and ward patients. The physician is accountable to, and supervised by, the Chief of the Otolaryngology Section. He or she is responsible for providing effective delivery of otolaryngology care in the operating room, critical care services, and clinic. The physician is responsible for maintaining current clinical privileges and keeping licensure and all other appropriate documents up to date.

In addition to compliance with national and local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this health care system, this position encompasses the following responsibilities, in partnership with his/her Administrative Officer and the support of the Senior AO, Section Chief and ACOS, Surgical Services. The incumbent requires appropriate time mapping and resources to ensure they are empowered to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practice, education, and research.
Administrative Duties:
i. Obligations/Responsibilities: Ensuring the timely completion of Medical Record Documentation
ii. Completing annual TMS training
iii. Proper clinical Management including indirect patient care: open encounter and open consult maintenance, CPRS documentation requirements, monitoring of clinic management. Maintains involvement in matters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient Safety oversight, as well as process improvement initiatives.
Clinical Duties: The incumbent is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All physicians must meet the following qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
1. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
2. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
3. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred : Fellowship trained preferred.
Experience: Significant accomplishments in clinical practice, educational
activities, research or administration which clearly distinguish the physician
as having the highest professional qualification in the specialty area to which
assigned, such as:
Past or present faculty appointment at the professional level in an approved medical school, Publication of articles in nationally recognized professional journals, Officer in a State or National professional medical organization, Directorship of a hospital or large clinic.
Preferred Experience:
Board certified or board eligible in Otolaryngology or equivalent. Completion of a fully accredited US residency program in Otolaryngology, with or without additional fellowship training. Teaching and supervision experience of Medical Students/Residents. Previous academic experience, such as holding a faculty appointment, is desirable.
