This is a GG-11 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-11 duties for the "Technician/Administrative Support" work category are at the "Senior" work level and are equivalent to those at the GG-11 level. The organizational location of this position is: located in the Laboratory Operations Branch of AFTAC's Material Production Laboratory Division at Patrick AFB, FL
MAJOR DUTIES:
· The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that the equipment used in the laboratory to process and measure underground or atmospheric nuclear weapons testing samples or nuclear effluent materials of nuclear accidents is properly maintained.
· Responsible for maintaining an identified subset of the alpha, beta, gamma, and radiochemistry measurement equipment used to identify fission, activation, and actinide products of interest as well as radiochemistry separation, purification, and yielding equipment used for maintained in-house.
· Records and documents all equipment. Ensures that all vendor information associated with contracted items is maintained, to include warranties, operations manuals, etc.
· Maintenance expert on assigned one-of-a-kind laboratory analysis equipment items.
· Ensures all Periodic Maintenance Equipment List (PMEL) items received their calibrations on time and maintains the records.
· Has detailed understandings of the equipment interface requirements with the laboratory facility.
· Works with the branch chief to ensure all required health safety training and ongoing training updates are accomplished and records are maintained.
· Attends technical working group meetings/discussions within the laboratory as required to keep abreast of mission activity status, laboratory issues, and participate in the planning of high sample workloads, correction of equipment problems, and shortfalls.
· Performs other duties as required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel Systems (DCIPS) position implemented under Section 504, Title V of Public Law 99-569, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1987, as codified in Sec 1601, Chap 83 of Title 10 United States Code which sets forth Air Force policies and procedures for DCIPS. This position is in the Excepted Service.
DoD Components with DCIPS positions apply Veterans' Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 USC, in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. This position is covered by the excepted service authorized by TITLE 10 I.S.C. Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS), and as such will subject the incumbent to those examinations and/or tests that are necessary to retain and security clearance and any special accesses required by the position in accordance with AFI 36-1101. The employee must also sign a Statement of Understanding prior to occupying a DCIPS position.
2. Position is designated critical-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
3. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
4. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
5. Polygraph: Incumbent is required to undergo a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, in accordance with security regulations involving the material handles.
6. Shift work may be required.
7. An Associate's or Bachelor degree in a technical field (such as mechanical or electrical engineering, etc) is desired. Direct experience working maintenance in an analytical laboratory is desired.

Examples of creditable experience include applying knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and vacuum technologies and the maintenance of mass spectrometry and nuclear measurement equipment. Skills in troubleshooting techniques and equipment repair are desired. Knowledge of nuclear laboratory measurement and radiochemistry equipment, such as hoods, is desired. Tasks are accomplished in an environment of state of the art technology and extremely time critical deadlines. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Detailed knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and vacuum system maintenance principles, techniques, processes, procedures associated with maintaining sophisticated alpha, beta, gamma, and mass spectrometry laboratory equipment.
