As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-11/12, you will serve as an Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel; manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft; perform work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations; work with, coordinate and oversee the work of lower graded aircraft mechanics and certifies the work of journey level workers in other trades; perform damage assessments and repairs; participate in mission preparation and recovery operations; oversee installation of equipment for special missions; perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance; work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status; request maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints; control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel; coordinate with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control on maintenance requirements to aircraft that require adjustment to changes in operational requirements; accomplish operational tests of aircraft systems and components; oversee ground movement of aircraft; launch, recover, park and service aircraft; make diagnoses and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE); by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams; and analyzing specifications and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components; assist AVCRAD/DEPOT level maintenance activities on individual assigned aircraft discrepancies; ensure Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft; provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions; perform or assist in aircrew debriefing; clear Red X status symbols on aircraft forms; perform in-process and final inspection of others' work and certify adherence to work procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications; participate in Maintenance Test Flights as a crewmember or Technical Observer (TO); plan, develop and conduct proficiency training to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel; conduct and certify proficiency of trainees for additional or increased responsibilities; prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercises; ensure material and equipment are properly and safely maintained and protected.
