Air Reserve Technicians (ARTs) are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy ART positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency. The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as an Aircraft Worker providing support to aircraft mechanic maintenance operations of an Air Force Reserve Maintenance Squadron. This is a developmental position leading to the full performance level of journeyman, WG-8852-10, Aircraft Mechanic. As an Aircraft Worker, the incumbent will perform duties such as:
- Removing, inspecting, cleaning, repairing, adjusting, and installing aircraft components & parts.
- Accomplish operational and maintenance record keeping associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
- Assist higher grade aircraft mechanics in more complex tasks.
- Accomplishes operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (2) May be required to work uncommon tour of duty. (3) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance. Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. (4) Perform work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, standing, bending and climbing for extended periods of time. (5) Work outside in inclement weather, in hangar area, on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise and confined areas. (6) Work around machinery with moving parts and/or moving objects or vehicles. (7) Be exposed to dirt, grease, aircraft fluids, oil, solvents, hazardous fluids and gases, intake suction and hot exhaust blasts. (8) May be required to lift 80 lbs or more or carry items weighing 45 lbs or more. (9) May be required to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required. (10) This is a testing designated position. Incumbent will be subject to random testing for drug use.
