The applicants selected for this position will serve as a Patrol Mobile Response Division (PMRD) Motor Patrol Officer under the direction of the Operational Services Bureau (OSB), providing police motor services, traffic safety initiatives and enforcement programs, and PMRD support services for the U.S. Congress, U.S. Capitol grounds, and all areas and responsibilities directed by the United States Capitol Police.

Motor Patrol Officers must be able to accommodate a short notice change in shift and/or tour of duty based on the operational needs of the PMRD. These changes in work hours are based upon the needs of Congress and the USCP. The changes in shift and/or duty hours may be directed with little or no advance notice to officers. The operational needs of the PMRD may require reporting for duty at various times throughout the 24-hour day, as directed, to support the mission.
The work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds.

As a Patrol Mobile Response Division (PMRD) Motor Patrol Officer, you will:
Phase I: Initial Qualification - The Office of Human Resources (OHR) will conduct an eligibility factor review as outlined in this vacancy announcement. In consultation with OHR, a review of all candidates' personnel jackets and unscheduled leave will be conducted by an appointed assessment panel.
Phase II: KSA Self-Assessment - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) will be evaluated by an appointed assessment panel.
Ability to work in stressful situations with attention to detail.
Ability to identify and apply proper motor patrol procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices, and procedures of law enforcement and police work.
Ability to actively participate as a member of a team.
Phase III: Basic Riding Proficiency Evaluation -The "What to Expect Next" section of this announcement provides a link for the specifications of the FLHT Motorcycle and describes the basic riding proficiency evaluation.
Phase IV: Structured Interview - Candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview. Results of this selection process will be used to recommend candidates to the hiring manager who is the final selecting official. OHR will conduct a disciplinary action review. The hiring manager at his/her discretion may elect not to select a recommended candidate for reasons such as: substandard performance; serious sustained misconduct; and/or pending investigations internally or externally.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
1. Successfully complete the PMRD Field Training Program (FTO), Basic FLHTP Motor School, Basic Traffic Crash Investigation, and the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) School.
2. Satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period beginning on the date of completion of the PMRD FTO Program.
3. After showing a high level of proficiency operating the FLHTP Motorcycle, officers will be required to attend a Police Motorcycle Instructor School to further benefit the Department's needs.
Failure to successfully complete any of the above retention factors will result in removal from PMRD and reassignment to a different position.
