The United States Air Force's Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) invites applications for faculty position as a Professor of Military and Security Studies. Faculty members create curricula and deliver for a year-long, in-resident program designed to prepare field-grade officers to develop, employ and command airpower in joint, multinational and interagency operations.
Focus area for these positions include, but are not limited to, knowledge of the global environment, national and international strategy and policy development, joint military environment, knowledge and experience in joint planning and warfighting; historical perspectives on strategy and role of force, especially in the domains of air, space, and cyber and their effects in other warfare domains; international relations; technology and innovation; irregular warfare; and practical applications in the strategy and policy arenas. Strong knowledge of and practical experience with joint and/or airpower strategy, command and control arrangements, organizations, and planning processes across the spectrum of military operations is highly desired. More broadly, the position requires knowledge of service and/or joint military strategy and doctrine, national military strategy, military thought and theory, military history, joint/combined planning and joint and combined warfighting strategies. Faculty members also provide institutional service to the School, Air University, the Air Force, and the Department of Defense.

- The focus of this position is on teaching, scholarship and publication, and service to the University, the Air Force, and the nation. First and foremost, the aspiring applicant must be a highly capable instructor
- These duties include teaching graduate seminars, mentoring students (from academics to writing), and supervising research projects. ACSC expects each faculty member to be able to create graduate-level curriculum and deliver material using a Socratic method.
- The applicant must have the ability to conduct their own research and publish peer-reviewed publications.
- Service includes a range of activities from school administration to support for mission requirements at the University, the Air Force, or the Department of Defense.
- Travel to support these activities and as directed by the leadership at ACSC and Air University is expected of the applicant.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Incumbent must possess a minimum of a Master's Degree. Extensive relevantprofessional experience is highly desired, as well as academic curriculum development and teaching experience. It is desired that the successful candidate hold a doctoral degree or requisite experience in a relevant academic discipline and field, such as military or diplomatic history, international relations, security studies or a closely-related academic concentration. Demonstrated superior teaching performance and experience is desired. Experience in professional military education in the areas of curriculum development and teaching in the subject areas above is desired.
Academic rank for the position is open, but the focus is at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.
The position will be an initial two-year appointment with a one year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 3-5 year term.

A Ph.D. is highly desired, but at least a Masters is required, in Military History, International Relations, Security Studies, Political Science or a closely related field with an emphasis on airpower history, space, or cyber. Qualified candidates will have teaching and research experience in airpower history, strategy, and policy in the national and international security arenas. Teaching and research experience in political science/international studies (or related fields) or in the theory and practice of joint operations and planning with an emphasis on airpower (air, space, and cyber) strategy and policy in the national and international security arenas. Desired qualities include military technology and innovation, operations design, irregular warfare, and military theory.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. A minimum of a Master's degree is required.

DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act
Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires
Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled
veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for
a Federal job, a certification of active service in lieu of a DD214, assuming
the service member is otherwise eligible.
A certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate
military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates
including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of
service. The service member's military
service dates are necessary in order to determine whether he or she meets the
definition of "veteran" under 5 U.S.C. 2108(1). The "certification" must reflect
the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty
service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days
after the date of submission. The
certification must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel
officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate
when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active
duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e.
honorable). Further, under paragraph (h)
of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from
military service prior to appointment, through the DD214 or other appropriate
