The Providence VA Medical Center is an acute care facility operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week. While most tours of duty are scheduled during the day, the possibility of "on call" and working evenings, nights and weekends does exist. The staff physician is on-call 24/7 for 10.5 months per year and also participates in but not limited to taking phone calls from hospital staff and residents, coming into the facility nights or week-ends to manage care in the hospital or emergency room, if medically warranted, and providing surgery or performing appropriate surgical procedure on an emergency basis.
This Physician (Urology Surgeon) position is located in Surgical Service and is not a bargaining unit position. This is a permanent part-time position 60 hours per pay period (every two weeks). The work schedule will be discussed at the time of interview. The salary will be prorated due to part-time tour of duty.

Physical Standards: The physician should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position. Physical activities include sitting, standing (up to 2 hours) walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending.
Basic Requirements
U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S Citizen. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Education: Must possess a Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veteran Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Licensure: Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
