You will be responsible to perform the full range of operation, maintenance, and repair of high-temperature hot water (HTHW) generators and chillers, including related equipment, within the central Heat/Chill Plant. You will maintain constant observation of work flow meters, thermometers, and trending data to determine whether the system is being operated in the most efficient manner. You will set schedules, changes operating temperatures, turns equipment on and off, run diagnostics, and identify systems that are not operating properly. You will collect samples of water; perform tests to determine acidity/alkalinity using chemical reagents, color comparators and other standards. Perform pipefitting work and use assorted hand tools in order to make on-the-spot repairs such as tightening packing glands, nuts and bolts to stop leaks. You will perform duties involved in troubleshooting, repair, installation, overhaul, servicing and maintenance of a variety of complex HVAC&R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) equipment including laboratory environmental ultra-low cascade temperature chambers and heat pumps, which incorporate complex electronic and pneumatic control systems. Tests for refrigerant leaks and must use a refrigerant recovery/recycling station, to EPA standards, to safely reclaim, recycle and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made. Must be able to plan and install complete refrigerant piping systems using oxygen and acetylene for brazing and soldering with silver solder, silfos, etc. Reconditions, modifies and fabricates parts. Installs and relocates equipment including the chilled water system. Uses all hand tools, test equipment and instruments including voltage, amperage, and ohmmeters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, micron vacuum analyzers and pumps, electronic temperature gauges, capacitor analyzers, etc.
