As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK), GS-2210-11, you will
--Performs a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks.
--Executes procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize network performance. Installs, configures and monitors tested and evaluated software packages that provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN.
--Implements the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. Utilizes benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload. Works with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems.
--Uses remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files.
--Documents and tracks change to configuration, protocol and user/system files.
--Executes appropriate action to ensure backup processes are completed.
--Evaluates the performance of network devices such as servers, workstations, and peripheral devices, and remote access systems.
--Coordinates the development and implementation of configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANs with supported elements to include headquarters staff elements, tenant activities, state government, regional operating activities and national agencies.
--Implements plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state of the art software distribution methods.
--Monitors distribution of applications and upgrades ensuring compliance with regulations and copyright laws.
--Implements procedures to ensure accurate records of authorized users of distributed software are maintained.
--Implements the standard operating procedures for all devices on the network.
--Reviews and evaluates proposed software. Provides input to briefings and presentations on the complexities of the installation networks. These briefings provide the basis for long-range decision planning relating to C4 network project management.
--Analyzes equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify and define problem areas and to establish end-to-end systems performance levels.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Army National Guard and be assigned to a compatible military position in a unit supported by AR ARNG DCSG6 SUPPORT OFFICE in Warrant Military Occupational Specialty (WMOS) 255N/ Enlisted Career Management Field (ECMF) 25. Must become compatible within 12 months of appointment.
IMPORTANT NOTES (AS APPLICABLE): Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a Secret Security Clearance background investigation. A favorable determination based upon investigative results is mandatory for this position. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment. A pre-placement physical is required if not already current. Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment (if applicable, training will be coordinated by the supervisor). Individual must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO).

INFORMATION ASSURANCE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Reference: DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance (IA) Workforce Improvement Program, Para C3.2.3. IA Technical (IAT) Category Training Requirements
Within 6 months of assignment of IA duties all military and government civilian IAT personnel must achieve IA Baseline Certification unless a waiver is granted
-Individual needs to complete Security+ CE for IAT Level II to meet the minimum requirement. (Para: AP3.2.4.)
-Include a copy of certification if already completed with application.
-New hires' qualification periods begin the date they start in the position (i.e., they must obtain the appropriate certification within 6 months of being assigned IA functions).
-Personnel in technical category positions must be issued and retain an appointing letter to their IA duties including a statement of responsibilities for the system. A completed copy will be maintained in the individual's personnel record.
-Personnel in technical category positions must maintain certifications, as required by the certifying provider, to retain privileged system access.
-Personnel who are not appropriately qualified within 6 months of assignment to a position or who fail to maintain their certification status shall not be permitted privileged access and may lose their position of assignment if employee fails to attain or return to certified status.
