As An Interdisciplinary Science Officer you will:
·The incumbent serves as the senior science advisor to the Division Director and Deputy Director.
·Oversees the initiation, conduct and monitoring of research projects within the Division.
·Plan, guide, develop, implement, and evaluate policies, systems and processes to manage the compilation, validation, distribution and use of health and vital statistics data.
· Ensure that established release policies are adhered to by both NCHS staff and researchers, and that data files are properly destroyed at the end of the designated time period covered in the data use agreement.
·Serve as the primary scientific advisor to the Division Director, Deputy Division Director, and other senior staff on scientific matters in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, behavioral science, and related disciplines.
·Represent the Division and Center at meetings with representatives of other Federal agencies, State and local agencies, public health organizations, labor, industry, etc., concerning the Division's programs and research activities.
·Review all reports, articles or monographs describing findings from studies or projects conducted as part of the research and programs of the Division, to ensure that the documents are of a high technical caliber, represent important additions to the knowledge of health research, and command national and international attention in the public health field.
·Serve as lead expert technical and professional advice on the development of public health statistics systems and reporting processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIRMENTS for GS-0601: Applicants must have successfully completed a full four-year of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIRMENTS for GS-1530: Applicant must have successfully completed a full four-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

Have a combination of education and experience- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of exposure response, central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
Additional Requirements:
Applicants must also have at least
one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 level of
difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next
paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position
which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and
abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position which
include experience conducting a wide range of health services (i.e. public
health, epidemiology, medical informatics and/or a related field); and
evaluating key public health policies and procedures to design and conduct
comprehensive scientific studies related to health statistics.
