As a Supervisory Police Officer, GS-0083-08, you will serve as a first level supervisor and/or flight chief, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Security Forces Flight. You will also:
-Plan, organize, and direct the activities of a Security Forces Flight, ensuring that personnel comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
-Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
-Represent the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organization.
-Perform and enforce the full range of police officer duties within the military installation.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. Employees engage in such exertions when responding to alarms, pursuing suspects, or participating in weapons or other kinds of training activities, climbing stairs in office buildings, or walking foot patrols in and around large buildings. The employee will be required to continually stoop, bend, crouch and lift objects in the commercial vehicle search pit.The work may require common physical characteristics and abilities in agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend, and detain uncooperative suspects. In addition, this position requires the ability to employee "infantry" small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions while wearing protective gear for an extended periods of time, as well as the ability to employ "Active Shooter" response tactics as a member of a small team.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high levels of noise in industrial settings and from aircraft engines and weapons fire, high temperatures in confined spaces, or adverse weather conditions during extended periods of traffic, gate and patrol duties. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, vests, respirator masks, helmets and/or shields. The work also involves moderate risk and discomfort when working outdoors without shelter or operating vehicles for extended periods of time.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07), pay band or equivalent. Specialized experience is described as experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience, but you must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience at this grade level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas as reported on your résumé
1. Knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security AF, Federal and DoD rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security.
2. Knowledge of safely, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response and dispatch.
4. Ability to operate the Incident Management System and the Security Force Management Information System.
5. Ability to plan, organize, and directs the functions and staff of an organization.
OTHER INFORMATION:
1. The work requires a valid driver's license and the incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment.
2. Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
3. May be required to work other than normal duty hours. Overtime may be required.
4. Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required physical fitness/physical agility tests including running events, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrasts, and depth. Incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical thresholds shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.
5. Must undergo initial and periodic job compatibility assessments.
6. Must obtain and maintain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.
7. Must wear uniform and meet applicable dress and appearance standards.
8. Subject to annual duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard.
9. Must pass initial formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional, a certificate from a federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred.
10. Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and securities duties.
11. This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the based is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.
12. The position may be designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position may be locally determined to be essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of the key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency is not available.
13. Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic event, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
14. A one year supervisory probationary period is required if selectee has not previously met this requirement.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for a Federal job, a certification of active service in lieu of a DD214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible. A certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. The service member's military service dates are necessary in order to determine whether he or she meets the definition of "veteran" under 5 U.S.C. 2108(1).
