The VA Central Iowa Health Care System provides a full continuum of care between the Des Moines campus and our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) and is one of the Medical Centers that make up the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23). Employee selected may be expected to perform duties at other duty sites within VA Central Iowa Health Care System based on the needs of the organization.

Partner with a second surgeon in a general orthopedic practice to evaluate, diagnose, and treat America's veterans. Fifty percent of the practice is focused on total joint repair / replacement, the other 50% consists of a broad mix of fracture management, carpal tunnel release, ankle, wrist or hand surgery and a small volume of soft tissue cases. Arthroscopy skills are required. Inpatient management is required for an average of 3-5 patients per week. Orthopedic team includes a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner and two assigned nurses. Call is shared among orthopedic practitioners.
Work Schedule: Typical work hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Alternative work hours will be considered. Each full time provider is required to work a minimum of 80 hours per pay period (every two weeks) unless on leave status.

Physical Requirements: Placement in this position is subject to meeting the physical requirements of the position. This includes: Walking (up to 2 hours); standing (up to 2 hours); Light and moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs.) light to moderate carrying (up to 44 lbs); straight pulling and pushing, reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and 20/100 in the other; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
