As the Associate Executive Director (AED) for the Directorate of Epidemiology, the incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and coordinating the Consumer Product Safety Commission's national epidemiology programs that include injury data collection and analysis to identify emerging hazards or hazard patterns. The AED establishes and evaluates operational policies, makes decisions on programs, establishes priorities and allocates resources.
Specific activities associated with this position include:
1. Providing leadership in the application of statistical methods to ensure the collection of statistically sound and scientifically defensible analysis of injury data as related to product hazards. This includes managing and directing the development and design of the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), leading the enlistment of reporting hospitals and coordinating special projects funded by other federal agencies.
2. Serving as the principal statistician for the Agency and as an expert in interpreting statistical and epidemiological data as related to injuries and incidents to assess the impact of product safety standards and programs on consumer injuries.
3. Directing the full range of organizational activities and administrative management (budget, procurement, human resources, etc) of the directorate.
4. Representing the Office in intergovernmental activities and meetings within government, in the technical community and the public.

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's or higher degree which included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics provided at least 6 hours were in statistics) and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, engineering, or social sciences.
OR a combination of education (courses as described above) and experience in the full range of professional statistical work.
A master's degree in statistics is highly desirable.
All candidates MUST submit college transcripts in order to qualify. A copy of an SF-50 only is not adequate proof of meeting the education requirements.
