The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties to operate fitness, sports, or aquatic facilities as needed. Assists the Fitness Director to plan, arrange and execute activities for military, civilians and family members in the facilities assigned. Incumbent may explain and assist patrons in the use of facilities, ensuring safe and proper handling of facilities and sports equipment. Assures officials for sporting events are scheduled and available on time. Is responsible for and assists in maintaining cleanliness of facilities prior to, during, and after use. Assists in the opening and/or closing of facilities ensuring building security before closing at the end of the day. Responsible to review scheduled events to ensure facilities are prepared prior to scheduled start times. Checks ID cards to assure that only authorized patrons are utilizing facilities assigned. May answer telephone and personal questions providing excellent customer service skills. Circulates among the patrons to assist in basic use of equipment and to maintain good order and discipline. Cleans and maintains facilities, performing janitorial services to ensure interior spaces are clean, neat and orderly at all times. Sweeps, mops, dusts, and cleans workout rooms, mirrors, bathrooms and locker areas as necessary. Accounts for individual and unit issue of sports equipment by proper issue and turn-in procedures. Maintains and updates reservation schedules for facilities and sports fields to prevent schedule conflicts. Prepares and updates records/tables on ongoing intramural sports activities. Prepares, distributes, and posts publicity announcements of sports events and programs. Inventories sports equipment and follows-up on discrepancies. Performs other related duties as assigned. In addition to performing all duties of the position listed above, the incumbent will perform the following duties as needed: Performs life guarding duties and employs safety rules for the protection of pools, beaches and aquatic facilities assigned. Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as necessary. Assists in maintaining aquatic areas clean and free from hazards. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety rules and procedures. Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows supervisor’s direction on unruly patron actions. Maintains daily logs and records of mishap recordings as required.

Must possess and maintain current certifications in Standard First Aid and CPR. As a condition of employment, the employee must obtain the Hepatitis B Virus (HPV) vaccination or complete the HBV declination form prior to first day of work due to possible occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Must possess sufficient maturity to focus on the importance of due diligence of patrons at all times; ability to exercise control over a large group of people; ability to appropriately identify hazards or hazard situations; and identify a patron’s need for assistance vice general play immediately. This position is subject to irregular schedule, requiring weekends and holidays
