About the Position:
The Service Base Office is located near downtown St. Louis, not far from Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and the Savvis Center, home of the St. Louis Blues hockey team. Located in and around the downtown area is the the world famous Gateway Arch; the St. Louis Zoo and many other attractions. Lambert International Airport has direct flights to most major cities. Train travel is offered by Amtrak. Our employees live throughout the metropolitan area in various locations in Missouri and Illinois. Commuting times vary from a few minutes to generally no more than 45 minutes one way. Local transportation is usually by bus, light rail, or private automobile (transportation subsidies are available for mass transit users). There is a 1% earnings tax charged to all workers in the St. Louis City limits.

During dredging season the incumbent will work with an element of the deck crew to perform various tasks, but not limited to:
Work Schedule: During the Dredging season, the work schedule will be 12 hour work days with the schedule being 7 days on 3 days off. 7 nights on 4 days off with crew changes being on Tuesday and Thursday.
During Layup Maintenance, the work schedule will be 10 hour days Monday through Thursday, 4 days on and 3 days off.

SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: The ability to do the work of Master, Tender with no more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet this screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience in the following: Experience operating small towing vessels (less than 65 feet in length and 1100 horsepower) on the island waterways and perform numerous operational tasks but not limited to making or breaking up tows, placing fuel barge along side other floating plant, maneuvering crane barges into place, and piloting vessels on short transit assignments. * MUST UPLOAD MASTER OF TOWING UPON WESTERN RIVERS LICENSE TO BE CONSIDERED*
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Piloting requires standing for long periods and continual hand and eye coordination. Physical effort is required in performing mechanical repairs.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside. Cabin is noisy from engine. Work is dirty and greasy when making adjustments and repairs. Hazards include occasional danger of falling overboard, drowning, falls on slippery decks or in climbing steep stairways, and injury from moving machinery. The incumbent is subject to hazards of heavy river traffic at night and during foggy weather. The incumbent is responsible for compliance with safety procedures and regulations applicable to this position in accordance with existing safety policies.
