This is a Pathways Program Internship position.
The OIG is a statutorily created independent entity whose mission is to deter and detect waste, fraud, abuse and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. The Inspector General (IG) is appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, reports to the Attorney General and Congress. The OIG investigates alleged violations of criminal and civil laws by DOJ employees and also audits and inspects DOJ programs.
Interns for this position will handle various administrative and operational functions involving one or more of the following areas: procurement, property management, budget, human resources, security, IT, internal communications, report presentations and documentation, data collection and analysis, etc. The purpose of this internship is to ensure continuity and consistency with administrative and operational practices and procedures.
This excepted service position is being filled under the provisions of the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities. The program allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. The internship also provides Federal managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to their curriculum studies or career goals.
This vacancy may be used to fill other similar and/or comparable positions throughout the agency within the stated duty station.
This is a temporary Pathways Internship Program appointment not-to-exceed one year from appointment 06/25/2017 and may be extended in 1-year increments based on program needs and if the student continues to meet program requirements. This position has conversion potential provided that all of the requirements for conversion have been met.

As a Student Trainee, works with higher graded staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study. Specific responsibilities include:

If this position becomes available for conversion, an intern must perform the following to be eligible for conversion to the competitive service after completion of the program. Successfully complete an academic course of study as evidenced by a qualifying degree; complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Pathways Program;
meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the intern is being converted;
maintain acceptable performance under the Agency's approved performance management system;
and receive a favorable recommendation for conversion from supervisor.
