About the Atlanta VA Medical Center: The Atlanta VA Medical Center has 405 authorized inpatient beds (273 in the hospital, 120 Community Living Center, and 12 PRRTP) and is a tertiary care facility classified as a Complexity Level 1A facility. The Atlanta VA Medical Center is seeking an Outpatient Pharmacy Technician. This position is located in Outpatient Pharmacy Service at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Atlanta Ga. The incumbent will perform the following duties not limited to:
·Collates prescription documents for specific patients.
·Obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form. Determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measure medication, including chemotherapy products.
·Affixes proper label and required data on the pharmacy's copy of the prescription/order.
·Maintains statistics and records; Operates and maintains pharmacy automation systems.
·Wrap and package medications that pertain to the preparation and/or distribution of medications within the outpatient pharmacy department.
·Compounds various medications, i.e. ointments, creams, lotions, special formula solutions, etc, using
appropriate aseptic technique, on an as needed basis.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
9:00am-5:30pm (with rotating weekends).

Basic Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
Education or Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience.
English Language Proficiency: Applicants appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Certification: National Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required. (MUST provide a copy of your certification).
Creditable Experience. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with the scope of pharmacy technician practice.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time Experience. Part-time experience as a pharmacy technician is credited according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a pharmacy technician would receive 1 week of full-time credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work.
Quality of Experience. To be creditable, pharmacy technician experience must be documented on the application and verified in an employment reference, or through other independent means.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS: GS-6
Experience. Example of experience is a team leader for a specific process improvement teams involving technical areas or performing more highly complex duties including preparation of oncology agents for clinical pharmacy specialist. The ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes. Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff. Work experience in the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment Work experience in the area of investigational drug policies and procedures, work experience which you gained the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in controlled substance policies and procedures.
Candidates must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the following:
1. Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer to
appropriate action.
2. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment.
3. Knowledge of, and ability to follow written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents.
4. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products.
5. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas, such as emergency
carts.
6. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and
medication orders.
