The HRO Specialist is a Physician who serves as the proposer, promoter, and implementer of strong, safe clinical processes across the Medical Center. The incumbent uses Patient Safety, Systems Redesign (LEAN) and Quality Improvement skills to foster the development of a HRO at the unit/service/medical center level. In this role the incumbent understands VHA, VISN, and Medical Center vision and strategic/operational direction to facilitate integration of quality and safety into the organization. The incumbent proactively engages clinical care areas and works with individual staff, teams, and services to improve safety, quality and efficiency of care. The activities of the HRO Specialist not only strengthen patient care but also promote the development of a just culture at the unit/service/medical center levels. In addition, the HRO Specialist:
The HRO Specialist Physician also maintains a clinical practice in their area of specialty equivalent to 25% of their FTE time as determined by the clinical education of the selectee.

meet the requirements of The Joint Commission as well as other accrediting
organizations and the OIG as they apply to the position.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It occasionally requires carrying of light objects such as files, books and papers; some walking, standing and bending. No Physical demands are required. No special physical qualifications are required.
Preferred
Experience: At least 1 year experience in acute care hospital setting; experience with quality management or patient safety (please explain in detail)
Applicants with the following certifications from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) are highly preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). (AHA certification preferred.) The selected employee will be required to receive these certifications prior to assuming clinical responsibilities and ensure current certifications after employment is maintained.
Experience refers
to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National
Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g.,
professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student;
social). Volunteer work helps build

experience, including volunteer experience.
