About the Position: Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. You can watch them on parade or competing as intercollegiate athletes in a wide range of sports events. As a military installation, West Point is a small, self-contained city with housing for the military stationed here in support of the Academy, a Department of Public Works to maintain the roads, grounds and facilities, a military hospital, fire department, chapels, restaurants. You will serve as leader and instructor in the Department of Physical Education Combatives Program. You will teach self-defense and military application of martial arts. You will develop and administer the combatives curriculum, martial arts/combative sports, and integrate their applications with the Physical Development Program for cadets. You will conduct in-service training of faculty and cadets in martial arts/combative sports and activities. Additional duties will include serving as a sport educator in the United States Military Academy's intramural program; administering a variety of physical fitness tests to cadets; and performing a summer detail such as cadet basic training.

This is a full time term appointment in the excepted service starting on or about 1 August 2017 and not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended or renewed. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance and retirement. You will also be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.
SALARY: Competitive salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject matter field (Physical Education) appropriate to the position OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE SKILLSAND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Education and academic accomplishment in Physical Education or related field (Master's or advanced degree is strongly preferred); 2) Demonstrated ability to perform and teach a variety of Department of Physical Education core courses to include Combatives (three or more years of teaching experience strongly preferred); 3) Ability to perform and teach a variety of lifetime sport and fitness activities (three or more years of teaching experience strongly preferred); 4) Knowledge of and ability to plan, organize and monitor individual and group fitness plans; 5) Ability to plan, organize, and monitor cadet intramural sport activities; and 6) Ability to work cooperatively in a cadet-centered curriculum dedicated to the physical development of future army officers.
