This internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study relating to their career path, to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment.
Duties:
Performs selected tasks and phases of studies and projects that require application of basic theory and principles in the area of computer science
-Performs tasks of limited scope and difficulty which are screened by higher graded personnel
-Working under the guidance of and in close association with senior personnel, performs a variety of standardized work assignments consisting of established, specific, and related tasks that have been selected to orient the employee in the practical application of basic principles, concepts and techniques of the occupational field
-Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects
-Performs computer science work of limited scope and complexity in support of senior personnel
-Studies Air Force requirements for projects and researches and studies the current body of precedents and technical knowledge
-Provides assistance to senior personnel in planning, monitoring and conducting special studies, projects and initiatives
-Attends meetings to observe interactions and understand working relationships with customers, specialist and other organizational points of contact
-Uses computer science principles such as operating system theory, data structures, computer system architectures, software languages, optimization techniques and computer communications to assist senior personnel in solving software problems and facilitate the work
GS-04: Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of basic theories, principles, and methodology of computer science
- Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments
- Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format
- Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions
- Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field
- Ability to search technical reports, computer software applications and other guidelines to obtain information for senior personnel
You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university:
· Accepted for enrollment or are enrolled in an approved program
· Pursing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree
· Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
· Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale)
. Must currently have at least 60 or more semester hours or 90 or more quarter hours
· Meet the qualification standards of the position
· Must be at least 16 years of age
· A U.S. citizen or a national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island). Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if:
· Permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act
· Eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws

Recommend area of study: Seeking a Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
To qualify for a GS-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post high school study or an associate's degree in a related field of study
To qualify for a GS-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study.
To qualify for a GS-07: Completion of 1 academic year of graduate level education, bachelors degree with Superior academic Achievement as provided in the "General Policies and Instructions" for Qualifications Standards Operating Manual (see link below), or 5 academic years of pre-professional study.
