This position is located in the Office of Transit Safety & Oversight (TSO), Office of System Safety. The Office is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining national policy, strategy, plans, rules, regulations or guidance affecting Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Safety, as well as development and implementation of programs, projects, initiatives, and associated tools. The selected candidate supports the Director by assisting in the development of national transit safety policy, strategy, plan, and rule development at the staff level;develop associated written products; work collaboratively to conduct Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) analysis and packets, and Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA)associated with rulemaking; promote safety performance management, and develop new approaches to unique situations that may arise.
The selected candidate will work with other TSO offices, the Safety Policy Team and other DOT and FTA offices to develop and implement transit industry safety policies, strategies, plans, rules, technical tools, directives and other guidance for both internal FTA offices and external industry stakeholders. Develop and convey technical information on public transportation, safety performance management, Safety management Systems (SMS), or safety to executive leadership and external audiences. Represent FTA as a participant or presenter in transit industry safety working groups, at conferences, technical teams, and other related activities to ensure continued exchange of information.
