Work Schedule: Hours vary, patient care is provided 8:00 am -4:30 pm
The provider may be responsible to work extended hour clinics at least every 6 weeks including a Saturday morning.
Providers work as leaders and members of a health care team that shares responsibility for comprehensive medical care with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. The core Primary Care team consists of the Primary Physician Provider, the team RN/Case Manager and a Licensed Practical Nurse. Veterans Health Administration Primary Care Model emphasizes a team-based approach to health care. As a team leader, the Primary Physician Provider must promote, maintain and nurture positive relationships with the goal of efficient health care delivery where each team member works at the top of his or her practice. Primary Physician Providers will be responsible for performing duties to include, but not limited to the following:
· Manages chronic conditions, evaluates and treats inter current medical conditions;
· Collaborates with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) to provide accessible, comprehensive, coordinated, continuous care to an assigned panel of patients;
· Performs a variety of disease prevention related activities including gender and age specific screenings (e.g. breast and colo-rectal cancer), mental health screenings (e.g. depression, substance use & abuse, military sexual trauma and PTSD) and health promotion activities including immunizations, weight management and exercise counseling;
· Screens for, evaluates and treats uncomplicated common mental health disorders, including depression and common addictions, with referrals made to mental health providers for further evaluation and treatment as appropriate;
· Performs H&P and medical clearance examinations;
· Performs common outpatient & office-based procedures;
· Performs preliminary interpretation of common diagnostic tests including EKG and plain x-ray films;
· Participates actively in delivering training in-service and for medical center disciplines and services; in teaching of medical fellows, residents, and students; and in supporting an environment that promotes excellence in health care and encourages continual learning;
· Provides clinical supervision of mid-level providers, medical residents and students, as necessary; and
· Performs other patient care related duties, as necessary.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

(1) Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the the degree was granted. (schools including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full unrestricted licensure. (schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association.)
(2)Completed three-year residency, or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of VA for the year in which it was completed.
(3) Licensure and Registration, Current, full and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must and maintain current registration.
(4) Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
(5) Board certification by the appropriate American Board for internal medicine/family practice is preferred.
This position will be filled on a full-time permanent basis. Upon completing any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.
This position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status.
