About the Position:
Serves as a language instructor in the Field Support Division, Continuing Education Directorate, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Reports to the Language Training Detachment (LTD) Director, Field Support. Duty location is Special Warfare Education Group (Airborne), United States of America John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (USAJFKSWCS) Language Training Detachment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Courses are taught six hours per day, five days a week, with the exception of federal holidays and training holidays. Instructors work in teams with academic specialists. A typical eight-hour day includes teaching six hours and other duties such as class preparation, adapting teaching materials, checking homework, administering and grading tests. The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday 08:00 am to 04:00 pm. The duration of language courses at Fort Bragg location is 24 weeks

Teaches using appropriate real-world proficiency activities and FLO-related tasks. Day-to-day responsibilities include teaching six hours per day on a regular basis, preparation for instruction, collecting and adapting teaching materials, tailoring and correcting homework, assessing student performance through quizzes and tests, counseling students, design and participate in immersion activities. Cooperates with LTD and SWEG(A) faculty in instruction, curriculum and test development. Analyzes program effectiveness and student performance in cooperation with Academic Specialist and Branch Chief. Diagnostic Assessment (DA) certification is desirable; however, if the candidate is not currently certified, completion of DA training will be necessary. Stays current in Foreign Language Acquisition developments, including, among others, strategy-based teaching and learning, learning styles and personality types, effective student and teacher mentoring, curriculum design, and strategies for attaining higher levels of proficiency. May be required to travel occasionally to teach in other locations. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
Native language or near-native proficiency in all skills is required, in addition to strong English communicative skills. Familiarity with sound foreign language teaching methodology, knowledge of learner variables, experience with foreign language curriculum development and knowledge of the government Language Proficiency Scale are essential qualifying factors. Must be familiar with or capable of learning the operation of Windows-based desktop computers, to include word processing, Power Point, working with the Internet, and simple database management. The candidate must be able to use Smart Board technology in the classroom and work in a team environment. Experience with foreign language curriculum development is essential qualifying factor and is desirable. Must be willing to learn and integrate technology to enhance language instructional programs.

DIRECTLY RELATED WORK :
Formal classroom instruction of a language foreign to the students at high school level or above. Formal classroom instruction normally includes such activities as class preparation, course preparation/modification, testing, tutoring, and counseling in a structured, education environment. If selected, applicant must pass a language proficiency test (OPI).
LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 in speaking. The minimum proficiency for the language to be taught is a Level 3 in speaking. If a dialect is required, the minimum proficiency is also Level 3. The proficiency levels are defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org . Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply after 6 months. Upon subsequent selection, retesting is allowed only once.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
