About the Position:
Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles
from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year
academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest
continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as
cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. You can
watch them on parade or competing as intercollegiate athletes in a wide range
of sports events. As a military installation, West Point is a small,
self-contained city with housing for the military stationed here in support of
the Academy, a Department of Public Works to maintain the roads, grounds and
facilities, two libraries (Academic and Community), a military hospital, fire
department, chapels, restaurants. West Point's 3,000 civilian employees have
access to Eisenhower Hall Theatre, the Hudson Valley's premiere performing arts
center, and to recreational facilities such as an 18-hole Golf Course and Ski
Slope.

Regulates manual controls to maintain correct alternating current cycles, correct power factor and required electric load on generators. Adjusts steam and/or water to turbines seals to maintain proper seals. Adjusts cooling water to air and oil coolers to maintain proper temperatures. Regulates and maintains constant pressure on steam heating lines. Greases, oils, and cleans up equipment as required. Works in engine room on assigned shifts; maintains constant surveillance of turbo-generators, exciters, air compressors, electric output panel, commercial power panel and instrument panel, air ejectors, economizer, heater, etc. Maintains log showing hourly readings from electrical meters, steam flow meters, turbine and steam distribution lines, economizer temperatures, air and oil coolers, atmospheric conditions and temperature, etc. Changes meter charts daily. Operates main turbine generators, air compressors, lube oil pumps, exciters, condensate pumps, emergency gasoline generator and economizer soot blowers. Performs required operations to warm up main turbine generators, bring turbine up to operating speed and secure main turbines when taken out of service. Assists higher grade employees in performing complete overhauls and repairs on various non-operational equipment in the Power Plants.
You must be willing to work rotating shifts.
Note: This position is mission essential and the incumbent may be called in to handle emergencies outside of normal duty hours. These emergencies are significant as they affect the health and welfare of United States Military Academy (USMA) personnel and property.

Physical Efforts:
This position requires prolonged sitting, as well as periods of walking, standing, and stooping.
This position routinely lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If object weighs over 50 pounds, uses lifting equipment or coworkers' assistance.
Working Conditions:
Primarily works inside in well lighted, comfortable work spaces. Occasionally works in proximity to high voltages and currents, subject to burns and shock.
In performing duty #4 employee is exposed to the usual temperature, dust, gases, danger of burns from hot pipes and equipment normally occurring in power plants.
May be exposed to acid and alkali chemicals used in boiler feed water treatment. Subject to continuous noise.
Incumbent will be required to wear respiratory protection and must pass a pulmonary function test by Occupational Health.
