RN Education/Documentation Consultant
The RN Education/ Documentation Consultant is responsible for providing clinical expertise and leadership as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. He/She processes up to date knowledge of advanced clinical concepts, healthcare regulations, clinical documentation requirements, coding/ compliance guidelines, utilization management processes, and current standards of care in an effort to identify and communicate areas for improvement in quality patient outcomes and supporting clinical documentation. The incumbent is accountable for utilizing a variety of collaborative strategies with physicians, mid-level providers, and other member of the interdisciplinary team, Medical Care Cost Recovery (MCCR), and Health Information Management (HIM) staff to ensure the severity of illness and level of services provided are accurately reflected in the medical records. The incumbent provides leadership for and participates in, interdisciplinary team discussion, education and improvement activities. He/She uses performance improvement methodologies and education strategies to develop training and orientation platforms for medical/hospital staff concerning documentation opportunities and trends as well as ongoing updates to policy and regulations.
The RN Education/Documentation Consultant is responsible for guiding, directing, appraising, and overseeing the performance of students in clinical rotations, and assumes accountability for clinical supervision of students in ensuring patient care provided by students is safe and consistent with best practice standards as well as clinical policies and procedures. He/she is responsible for ensuring student clinical rotations meet the requirements of the academic program and applicable regulatory boards. The RN Education/Documentation Consultant demonstrates leadership, experience and creative approaches to effectively implement clinical instruction and staff development programs in support of expanding nursing workforce capacity and improving training in the management of complex patient care. The incumbent is responsible for required education components by assisting in curriculum development and lecturing of students within his/her shared faculty role. The incumbent is responsible and accountable for ongoing, comprehensive evaluation and improvement of clinical student practice in order to meet the needs of Veterans including patients, significant others, and/or communities.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
Preferred Experience:
· BSN and approximately 2-3 years of experience; or
· MSN and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or
· Masters in a field related to nursing and a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or
· Doctoral degree in nursing, or in a field related to nursing and no experience
