The incumbent will provide support to the inpatient area of Nursing Service for the Alexandria VA Health Care System (AVAHCS). The AVAHCS offers a full range of acute and chronic care services for the Veterans residing in the South-Central Louisiana area. He or she will be responsible for a range of duties which include the responsibility for interpreting and verifying orders in accordance with VHA National Scheduling Directive guidelines. Incumbent will receive all telephone calls and visitors to the unit (i.e., inpatients, outpatients, military personnel, families and friends, of patients); regarding such things as the availability of and procedures of obtaining medical assistance, directions and information for contacting various departments services and patients; and request for changes in scheduled appointments. The incumbent screen caller to obtain sufficient information necessary to determine primary need to the area of interest and provides assistance scope of assignment. He or she must have computer skills and knowledge of computer applications. Incumbent is responsible for assembling and maintaining patient's charts, recording physicians' orders, and procedures of receiving and discharging patients in the unit. The incumbent is responsible for mail distribution and processing of mail. The incumbent will record, draft for approval, and disseminate unit minutes monthly.
