About the Position:
Sierra Army Depot is located in the rural northeast California town of Herlong, approximately 65 miles north of Reno, NV; and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. With the exception of Fire & Police, most employees work a 4/10 work week, Monday - Thursday, 0630 - 1700 hrs. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. The depot has a Military Commanding Officer with a predominately civilian work force of approximately 1100 employees.
Youth Service Facilities provides daily child care/youth activities. Exchange/commissary facilities are not available. Carpools/bus/van transportation available from Reno/Susanville at minimal cost. Depot works 4/10 schedule. Surrounding area boasts world class fishing/hunting/snow skiing; full range outdoor sports/recreation activities. San Francisco Bay area approx. 3 hrs south. Travel/recreational opportunities, plus 3-day weekends make this location a very desirable assignment.

As a Motor Vehicle Operator, encumbent will operate all types of forklifts and motor vehicles up to a 34-ton capacity. May drive other types of vehicles of the same capacity or less as required in order transport a variety of palletized, containers, general supplies, material handling equipment, lumber, and other material within the depot industrial area. Operate a variety of type, sizes and makes of gasoline, diesel or multi-fuel powered motor vehicles, semi-trailer or lift-trailer coupled by a fifth wheel on and off the installation. Operate material handling equipment, including container handling, rough terrain, 99,000 pounds capacity. Maneuver tractor-trailers within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground and in narrow or congested areas. Select the safest, most direct and legally allowed route to be followed and identifies alternate routes which may be used if emergency situations arise.

Conditions of Employment:
Screen Out Element: Operate at least one or more motor vehicles including truck trailers equipped with a fifth wheel, vans and stake trucks; which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds and up to 68,000 pounds. Operate these vehicles over a variety of roads including narrow country roads, and steep winding grades.
Operated vehicles that have light loads that are easy to secure and control; have air brakes; and are easy to maneuver.

Physical Effort: Considerable effort is exerted when reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate and turn large, heavy vehicles and operate two braking systems. Frequently handle objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally handles objects over 40 pounds while loading and unloading cargo.
Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather when loading and unloading vehicles. Drive in traffic on and off post in all types of weather conditions and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents; Frequently exposed to unpleasant noise, heat, and fumes from the work area; Exposed to serious injury from swinging loads, breaking lines, and falling objects; Exposed to cuts, bruises, broken bones from falls while climbing and attaching rigging. Hard hats, safety shoes and gloves are used.
