Welcomes visitors, disseminates information, and collects and accounts for fees at entrance stations and campground offices. Responsible for providing answers to recurring visitor questions concerning Everglades and the local area. Incumbent provides information of the area's recreational opportunities, NPS interpretive services, and campground availability. Distributes maps, brochures and other printed material; provides directions and makes suggestions on where and how visitors can enjoy the park. Informs visitors of park regulations and potential safety hazards. Responsible for collecting appropriate fees, following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Operates an electronic cash register, credit card machine, and computer. Performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and federal recreation passports in accordance with established guidelines and verifies entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates. Deals with a large variety of individuals of varying ages, abilities, and needs. Maintains a professional appearance, courtesy and customer service is always the priority. Duties at park entrance stations are in a fast paced environment. Incumbent will provide traffic control at entrance station(s), parking areas, etc. Performs campground duties such as collecting fees, monitoring campground self-registration collection activities, checking on site availability, duties associated with the national campground reservation service, and conducting compliance checks of campground users to ensure proper payment of fees. Performs minor maintenance of vehicles and facilities to include but not limited to cleaning out or moving grills, picking up trash, emptying garbage cans, painting and moving picnic tables, cleaning, maintaining and minor repair of vehicles including golf carts. Standing is required for long periods of time. Incumbent will be required to work in hot and humid, and buggy weather conditions, confined spaces and remote areas. Various rotating shifts will include nights, weekends and holidays.
Applicants must possess a valid state driver's license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver's license.

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-04 level, you must possess one of the following:
A. One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Visitor Use Assistant. General experience includes greeting the public, disseminating information, providing directions and fee collection. -OR- B. Two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours). This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. In order to receive credit for experience, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the number of hours worked per week.
Credit for experience is given on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
