About the Position:
The Medical Data Technician (Office Automation) position is located in the Department of Patient Administration, Medical Records Branch at Evans Army Community Hospital on Fort Carson. Fort Carson is a premiere Army duty station that is located just southwest of Colorado Springs and nestled at the base of Pike's Peak. This position is responsible for the medical data preparation and editing and transcription functions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: performing a variety of technically complex tasks, such as utilizing knowledge of medical terminology to transcribe traditional medical transcription reports; transcribing voice recordings containing specialized and varied medical, anatomical, and pharmaceutical terminology dictated by physicians; editing voice recognition reports.
Typing Requirement: This position requires the incumbent be a qualified typist, being able to type 40 words per minute. This must be stated in your resume.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

1.Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

2. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are qualifying. For the GS-05 position, only education in the excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required at the GS-05 level. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for GS-05. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute for experience.
