This position is a full time permanent position located at the VA Medical Center Battle Creek, MI in the Associate Chief Nurse for Mental Health Section. Position will be located on the Residential 14-1 Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program unit.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), is a direct caregiver who has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex, practical nursing care assignments. The LPN completes duties and responsibilities, which involve performing nonstandard and specialized practical nurse activities, requiring a broad work experience and demonstration of self-sufficiency to resolve a range of nursing problems. The LPN functions as a champion and advocate for the provision of recovery focused services to Veterans. As such, he/she is expected to model Recovery and its defined values in all aspects of his or her professional activities and partnerships.
Work Schedule: Position tour of duty will be 1530-2400 with rotation if needed. May be required to work overtime or extended hours as needed to serve our Veterans and the Medical Center needs.

Basic Requirements:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations:
GS-3 - None beyond the basic requirements.
GS-4 - Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN; or Graduate from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures; or graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration.
GS-5 - Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.
GS-6 - Completion of at least 1 year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent, fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN
