The primary purpose of these positions is to perform one or more of the following nondestructive inspection (NDI) methods to inspect a large variety of aerospace components, parts, and materials: Eddy Current, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, and Liquid/Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection. The incumbent uses these inspection methods to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of aircraft engine parts and/or airframe components in accordance with inspection guidelines, and technical/process orders. Determines the inspection process and the technique required, and sets up/calibrates and operates the testing equipment. Identifies, locates, and measures hidden and subsurface flaws, discontinuities, fatigue cracks, corrosion, integrity of welds/welding overlaps, precision dimensional and volume measurements, hardness of materials for ferrous and nonferrous metals, and separation in bonded and honeycomb structures. Evaluates the defects and their nature, size, scope and exact locations and determines if the article should be accepted or rejected. Records/documents test results in a computer system. Uses and maintains tools and equipment, and follows established safety practices/procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

1. Appointment is contingent upon passing a physical examination.
2. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
3. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain appropriate background investigation or security clearance.
4. Incumbent may be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty, and are subject to call back to meet emergency situations.
5. Shift work may be required.
6. May be required to possess a valid operator's license to drive and operate a motor vehicle to and from work sites.
7. Incumbent may be required to pass medical examination performed by Occupational Medical Services or other government medical facility for exposure to ionizing radiation. Further, may be required to pass ophthalmologic examination which includes, in part, a slit eye examination, the ability to distinguish colors and shades (normal response), and natural or corrected vision of 20/30 or better along with an Ortho-Rater 8 or Jaeger #1 at twelve inches or equal. Physical examination may include blood analysis.
Physical Demands: Prolonged standing, frequent lifting of parts and materials weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other workers is required. Subject to eyestrain when using black light or when interpreting radiographs. Both hands and good eyesight required. Work requires stooping, bending, reaching, stretching, and climbing in, on, or through aircraft with equipment; Will be required to work in confined areas and in awkward positions to include fuel cells.
Working Environment: Works inside shop and in areas adjacent to or removed from the shop. Exposed to oils and processing solutions, which may cause dermatitis or allergy. Subject to possible radiation damage of body tissues. Wears radiation monitoring devices, standard safety equipment, and protective clothing.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for a Federal job, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible.
