The Dermatologist physician will be providing care to patients in outpatient/inpatient settings within the VA New Jersey Health Care System (VANJHCS). The dermatologist will be responsible for evaluation, treatment plan, and procedures in the area of dermatology. He/She will meet VA expectations as a member of the medical staff adhering to current VANJHCS medical staff by-laws and practice under approved clinical privileges and scope of practice. In addition, the dermatologist will participate in dermatology resident training, which includes supervising clinical rotations and patient care.
The dermatologist is a specially trained physician in the evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of dermatologic diseases. Area of expertise includes performing procedures such as excisional biopsies, laser treatment, and dermatologic surgeries. He/she is able to lead a care team consisting of residents, nurses, clerical staff, and other support staff to provide care that is centered on the needs of the patient and patients families. Furthermore, the physician will collaborate with other providers to co-manage patients and serve as a partner in the patients care.
The dermatologist physician demonstrates leadership, experience, efficiency, and creative approaches to caring for complex patient needs. He/She has a broad knowledge of dermatology and dermatologic diseases in order to systematically apply diagnosis and treatment plans.
Although East Orange and Lyons, NJ are listed as duty stations, this announcement is for one position that will require the incumbent to work at both campuses.
Duties include:
Performs histories and physical exams
Provides ongoing care to a panel of patients with chronic dermatologic diseases as well as acute episodic care
Prescribes medications according to federal and state Law
Writes orders and interprets diagnostic test results
Performs a variety of procedures (excisions, punch biopsies, debridement, etc.)
Supervises dermatology residents during outpatient and inpatient clinical rotations
Meets requirements set forth by ACGME to maintain program accreditation
Participates in Peer Review and Quality Improvement Initiatives
Answers consults sent to the Dermatology department
Participates in virtual modalities of care as developed and assigned within the department
Other pertinent duties as assigned by the Chief of Dermatology
