The Suicide Prevention Coordinator (SPC) holds administrative and clinical responsibility for the Suicide Prevention Program at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center (V AMC). The SPC is an Advanced Practice Level Social Worker, a subject-matter expert who provides and oversees specialized clinical psychosocial and case management services to high-risk Veterans with serious mental health problems and severe mental health crises. The SPC manages daily operation of the Suicide Prevention program, develops policies and procedures for the program, and prepares reports and statistics for local, regional, and national use. The SPC leads the facility in expanding and developing best-practice interventions for identifying suicide risk and preventing suicide or self-injurious behavior, and is responsible to ensure implementation of these practices throughout the VAMC's area of responsibility. Support is provided to local facility, CBOCs, and outlying rural health clinics through expert intervention, consultation, education, coordination, and monitoring/evaluation of suicide prevention efforts. The SPC is assigned to the VAMC's Behavioral Health Service. The SPC serves on the VISN 20 Suicide Prevention Committee and provides frequent reports to VA Central Office concerning regional suicide attempts and completions.

Physical Requirements:
The work requires sitting, walking, and standing, bending and carrying light items, less than 15 pounds, such as books, papers, and files. In carrying out responsibilities it may be necessary for the incumbent to travel throughout the community where he/she conducts interviews with the Veterans, their families, representatives of community health and welfare agencies and law enforcement agencies. When at the facility, work is performed in an office, clinic and/or conference room which is adequately heated and lighted. The work environment is not as controlled when the incumbent travels throughout the community to provide services.
Basic Requirements:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations:
Social Worker Program Coordinators and Manager.
(a) Experience, Education and Licensure. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator or manager must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (b) below.
(b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
4. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s).
5. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.
