The Alexandria VA Health Care System is seeking Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnographer) to provide service to the Alexandria VA Health Care System including the Community Living Center (CLC). The Alexandria VA Health Care System, Alexandria, Louisiana is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 3 facility serving Veterans within 23 of Louisianas 64 parishes. The Alexandria VAHCS is located in Pineville, Louisiana with community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Jennings, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Fort Polk, and Natchitoches, Louisiana.

The Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnography) is responsible for providing direct, sage, appropriate and effective sleep testing and care to patient in accordance with patient needs, current standards of sleep medicine practice, physician's orders and organizational policies. Including but not limited to conducting variety of polysomnography test: Nocturnal Polysomnography (NPSGs), Split Night Studies, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Positive Airway Pressure Titration (PAP), Actigraphy, Oxygen Titration and Portable Studies. Perform operator maintenance of polysomnographic equipment as required to include cleaning, disinfecting and providing for sterilization of equipment as required. Utilize polysomnographic techniques in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of sleep disorders. Explain procedures and positions to patients to insure patient comfort for optimal recording of physiological data. Performs patient acclimation to positive airway pressure therapy and treatment devices. Assesses he need to adjust positive airway pressure to relieve sleep apnea.
Work Schedule: 7:30pm to 6:00am
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily performed in patient care areas, in-patient and out-patient. Extensive interaction with patients, staff, physicians, family members and visitors involved. Moving equipment and supplies, lifting, bending, stooping and possible exposure to body fluid is involved.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G27, Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnography). Have a certificate or license from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
Experience: Must have at least one (1) year experience comparable to the next lower grade level (GS-07).

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-08. The Professional Standards Board (PSB) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved by the PSB.
