The Economic Analysis Division conducts economic and social science analyses on a wide range of transportation problems. We help transportation leaders make policy, programmatic, regulatory, and procurement decisions. Our team applies its expertise in three broad areas:
- Regulatory and financial decision support: in a grants, research or procurement negotiation context, analyze data to support decisions on level of funding or allocation of costs; in a regulatory context, support decisions on stringency
- Evaluation and impact assessment: support program performance management by developing action-oriented recommendations based on evaluations of program areas, technologies, operating practices, markets, and the impacts of programs on societal benefits and local economies.
- Travel behavior modeling and forecasting: inform decisions about infrastructure investment and proposed regulation by forecasting how travel behavior, vehicle fleet mix and safety are likely to change under different scenarios.
The Economic Analysis Division is seeking new graduates to join our team. Entry level economists work closely with project managers and colleagues to research and solve a wide range of challenging problems across all types of transportation. The work that you do can save lives, save time, reduce emissions, promote civil rights, and help the government make every dollar count. In the process, you will gain skills and have the opportunity to explore a range of career directions through working with colleagues in different disciplines and different types of projects. Staff who have moved on from this position have gone to graduate programs in Economics, Public Policy, Planning, Business, and Law.
The ideal candidate for this position is receiving an undergraduate degree in Economics by June 30, 2017, and enjoys and is good at applied research. We believe in revealed preference.
