This is a TEMPORARY part-time position (16-32 hours per week) not-to-exceed 1039 hours with the Inland Northwest National Wildlife Refuge Complex (NWRC), Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge located in Cheney, WA. Turnbull, at 16,000 acres, features over 130 wetlands, ponderosa pine forest, steppe grassland, aspen, and rock set in a distinctive landscape that offers many possibilities for experiencing nature. The refuge attracts an estimated 49,500 annual visitors to its 2200 acre public use area. Wildlife observation is the primary use but hiking and bicycling on the auto tour are also popular. In 2010 Turnbull offered its first elk and youth waterfowl hunts.
This is a Visitor Services Specialist position at the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. The incumbent assists with operation of the refuge's visitor services program, providing the public with safe, accessible, and quality wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities.
The incumbent may be rehired in subsequent years as long as 1039 hours has not been exceeded in the previous year.

As a Park Ranger, you will assist with the management and operations of the refuge's visitor services programs which include volunteer program, recreation management, and visitor information center. Major duties include:
- Develops and presents a variety of interpretive programs including orientation talks, conducted walks, and demonstrations to a variety of audiences or school groups.
- Prepares and conducts on- and off-site environmental education programs for a variety of audiences.
- Assists with training volunteers and other interns to conduct Environmental Education and Outreach Program covering a variety of natural resource topics.
- Staffs information desks in visitor center and roves trails, providing interpretive and orientation information to the public.
- Conducts minor maintenance and upkeep of visitor services facilities.
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS (conditions of employment)
Physical Demands: Work involves physical exertion such as walking long distances over wet, rough, uneven or rocky terrain, and recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or similar activities. You must be able to work occasionally under pressure and tight deadlines.
Work Environment: Work will be performed both indoor and outdoor. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work.

A. One year of full-time specialized experience comparable to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service, or equivalent non-Federal experience. Experience may have been as a refuge/park guide or tour leader; or performing archeological or historical preservation research work; or in other refuge/park-related technical, administrative, or scientific work. Specialized experience for this position is defined as assisting in recruiting and training volunteers in a natural resources environment; assisting in managing recreation activities.

B. Successful completion of 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other subjects closely related to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

C. Equivalent combination of specialized experience (as in A above) and education (as in B above) that, when prorated, combine to meet the qualification requirements for this position. Experience and education are each computed as percentages of their respective requirements and must equal 100 percent when combined.
